The Atlanta Braves acquired left-hander Chris Sale from the Boston Red Sox for infielder Vaughn Grissom on Saturday, shoring up their rotation with the seven-time All-Star they hope rounds out a World Series-caliber roster.

Sale waived his no-trade clause to consummate the deal, which followed months of efforts from the Braves to add a starting pitcher to a rotation that already includes Spencer Strider, Max Fried and Charlie Morton. Although Grissom had been part of prospective trades this winter, including offers for Chicago White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease, he wound up being what it took to get Sale, who will go to Atlanta along with $17 million to offset his $27.5 million salary in 2024, per sources.

The Yankees traded former top prospect Estevan Florial to the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, acquiring right-hander Cody Morris for the 26-year-old outfielder.

Florial signed with the Yankees in 2015 and was rated their top prospect in 2019 by MLB.com before dropping to sixth in 2020, 10th in 2021 and 30th in 2022.

The Mets continued adding to their stockpile of pitching options on Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the Brewers for pitching prospect Coleman Crow.
 

Right-handed starter Tyler Glasnow has signed a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Dodgers that makes official the trade of Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot from the Tampa Bay Rays to Los Angeles, the Dodgers announced Saturday.

The deal, which sends right-handed starter Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Jonny Deluca to the Rays, was contingent on Glasnow signing an extension. The window to do so opened Thursday morning, and the parties quickly came together with the framework of a deal that will tack four years and $111.5 million in new money onto the $25 million Glasnow was owed for the 2024 season.

First baseman Matt Carpenter was acquired by the Atlanta Braves along with left-hander Ray Kerr and $1.5 million from the San Diego Padres on Friday for outfielder Drew Campbell.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a trade to send frontline starter Tyler Glasnow to the Dodgers, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN on Thursday. The deal is contingent on Glasnow signing a contract extension with Los Angeles, which the parties are hopeful will happen by Friday, according to sources.

The window for the extension opened Thursday morning, sources said, and if completed, the Dodgers will acquire Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot and send right-handed starter Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Jonny Deluca to the Rays.

The New York Yankees have acquired left-handed reliever Victor Gonzalez and infielder Jorbit Vivas from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for shortstop Trey Sweeney.

Bethancourt batted .225 with 16 doubles, 11 home runs, and 33 RBIs in 104 games with the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2023 season. The Guardians claimed Bethancourt, 32, off waivers Nov. 6 and will receive cash considerations in the deal.

In return, the Braves are getting a player to be named later or cash.
